Commissioned Mosaic Works

Miles Mathews creates commissioned glass mosaics for private collectors, architectural environments, and contemplative spaces.

Each work is conceived as an extension of his ongoing fine art practice — shaped by dialogue, refined through material intelligence, and executed with structural and aesthetic precision. These are not decorative objects, but enduring works designed to hold presence within a space for decades to come.

Mathews’ mosaics explore the intersection of the terrestrial and the celestial — engaging themes of unity, sacred geometry, meditation, and humanity’s relationship to the natural world. The result is work that carries both visual clarity and quiet depth.

The Studio Process

Initial Consultation

Commissions begin with a focused conversation regarding site, scale, architectural context, and conceptual direction. Whether for a private residence, commercial space, or sacred environment, the work is developed in relationship to its setting.

Concept Development

Compositional studies and palette explorations are prepared to establish formal structure and material harmony. Refinement continues until the work reaches aesthetic resolution.

Material & Structural Consideration

Glass, smalti, marble, mirror, and stone are selected for both visual impact and archival durability. Attention is given to longevity, environmental conditions, and the structural integrity of the installation.

Fabrication

Each mosaic is entirely hand-cut and placed in studio. The process is deliberate and embodied, requiring sustained focus, precision, and technical discipline. Depending on scale, works may unfold over several weeks or months.

Installation

Installation within Santa Cruz and the greater Bay Area is available. National and international shipping and coordination are arranged as appropriate for scale.

Acquisition

Commissioned works are acquired through direct inquiry. Pricing reflects scale, material selection, complexity, and installation requirements.

A deposit secures placement within the studio schedule.
